The district judge orders the administration to restore closed broadcaster on the claims of « left -wing bias ».
A Federal Judge has stated that the President of the United States, Donald Trump, illegally stopped the operation of The Voice of America (VOA), a federally funded international news service created by Congress.
On a ruling on Tuesday, United States District Judge Royce Lamberth ordered the Trump administration to reset the 83 -year -old station’s capacity before Trump reduced funding and left dozens of staff.
In a presentation of the March court that stated that all the 1,300 employees had been put on administrative leave, Voa lawyers said that the broadcaster is intended to denounce the news « in truth, impartially and objectively », pressing against the claims of the Trump administration that promotes a « left-wing bias » and is insufficient « pro-American ».
Judge Lamberth also ordered the administration to restore the capacity of two other broadcasters also funded by the Federal Agency for World Media, Radio Free Asia and Middle Orient Broadcasting Networks, while these demands are moving forward.
The judge also denied a similar request from two additional networks, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and Open Technology Fund.
Trump and his allies have exercised federal funds to dismantle government programs and agencies that do not like and will force greater ideological fulfillment of media organizations and universities with the premise of combating what the administration portrays as « left » opinions. Lake Kari, a Trump ally, was also borne by the World Media Agency.
The administration closed VOA in March, instituting financing cuts that Lamberth said it reflected a « precipitated and indiscriminate approach ».
A labor union that represents the workers of the World Media Agency celebrated the sentence as a « powerful affirmation of the role that independent journalism plays in the advancement of democracy and the contrast of misinformation ».
Voa was first founded during World War II in a United States Government effort to counteract Nazi propaganda, and then used to project pro-state views united to countries around the world during the Cold War, a story that has led some to criticize the network as a means of promoting the interests of the United States around the world.
« This simple mission (delivering impartial news) is powerful to those who live worldwide without access to a free press and without the ability to distinguish what really happens, » Voa’s lawyers wrote.
Many other institutions created during the postwar period to project the political and cultural influence of the United States worldwide, such as the USAID Humanitarian Assistance AgencyThey have also been attacked by a Trump administration who sees them as ideological enemies or Buroucratic sources.
After grinding usaid, Trump’s technology billionaire and ally Elon Musk said that the international assistance group had been a « Nest of Viper Radical Marxists who hate America ».
