The President of the South American Football Body Conmeit Alejandro Dominges officially suggested that the World 2030 Cup will expand, including 64 national teams instead of 48 approved.
The proposal was submitted on Thursday at the 80th convention of Conmebol and aims to make the special edition of the 100th anniversary of the tournament.
FIFA, which leads international football, was already aware of the proposal when the Uruguayan delegate raised it at the sitting of the Virtual FIFA Council of March.
« We are convinced that the celebration of the centurion will be unique, because he is celebrated only once for 100 years, » Dominges said in Congress.
« That is why we first offer this anniversary to hold this anniversary with 64 teams at the same time.
« This will allow all countries to have the opportunity to live in the world, so no one on the planet is left to the party. »

Uruguay, who hosted the 20030 swearing ritual tournament, will hold one meeting as a century. The other co-authors include Argentina, Paraguay, Spain, Portugal and Morocco.
Expanding the tournament, all 10 CONMEBOL member states, including Venezuela, who still need to be qualified for the World Cup, will probably be considered a loan in the competition.
In case of exercise, the revised format will double the number of games from the 64 match model, which have been used since 1998 to 2022, bringing 128 games.
Despite the excitement that surrounds the proposal from the confrontation, not everyone supports the idea. UEFA President Alexander Kayfen has previously expressed his concerns, calling the concept of the 64-team World Cup « bad idea ».
Skeptics claim that such an extension can dilute the game level and disrupt the importance of the qualification process, especially in competitive areas.
