Thousands of children have undergone rape and sexual violence in the Eastern Congo baptized by conflicts over two months, said the United Nations Children’s Agency on Friday, warning that existing funding gaps meant that hundreds of thousands were deprived of protection. Children represent between 35% and 45% of about 10,000 cases of rape and sexual violence reported January and February this year, James Elder, Unicef’s spokesman, told journalists on Friday in Geneva.
