Let me never say that the original movie is dead while the studios continue to think that horror is a good investment. Or, in this case, more horror/thriller. In any case, the film production genre remains one of the few spaces where the original movies can bloom and leave it Christopher Landan, Glory « Happy Death »To bring us one of the most interesting original thrillers that took place for a while. Enter « Drop » that just passed the world premiere in SXSW more than a month before its theater release. The Universal Pictures is right to have confidence in this, as it is a slim and pleasant trip that should be made. The fastener on one bad but entertainment, the nails-biter date.
The film focuses on Violetta (Megan Fahi), the widow’s mother who goes on the first date for the years. When she arrives at the upscale restaurant to meet her patient, a beautiful date Henry (Brandon Caller), the purple quickly becomes a terrorized number of anonymous, threatening drops on her phone, distracting her from the occasion. She was soon instructed to do terrible things on behalf of the mystery, otherwise the young son Violetta and the nanny’s sister will be killed. Let the games begin.
Seeing the trailer for « Drop » many times in cinemas in recent months, I thought a) it looked like a damn time and b) that the trailer gave too much movie. For those who may have been like a thought, be sure that the Landon thriller has a lot of surprises. The term of the edge because of the seat is rushing a lot, but at different times this movie really earns.
Drop-it is an ancient thriller focused on new school technology
These days, this is a common complaint about the films: « They don’t make them as before. » Usually this turns out that most of the Hollywood results these days depends on the old franchise or recycled ideas. What we have with « Drop » is a really old school-focused adult films that are not based on the damn. This is refreshing.
Landon is a smart director who seems to be becoming more confident every time he leaves the camera. While he is known for combining a comedy, he plays him pretty straight. There are moments so necessary frivolity, but it’s never too much. Landon plays a lot of fears, first of all, a date that goes worse than anyone could imagine. However, it also plays a lot with modern fears caused by our technological world. It makes you really believe that we missed without having its direct « screaming 7 »
If there is a disadvantage, it is that it plays The whole trop of « horror trauma » It was quite popular since late. However, Landon uses this well because the topic really helps to manage history.
Drop – this is a showcase for its star leading actors
Blumhouse became a trusted name in horror. Here the house built by Jason Bloom demonstrates why it became the name for the audience to trust. « Drop » feels that the Blumhouse machine does what makes the best, it pleases me. The studio is one of the few trying to allow the original ideas to flourish, and here it pays off beautifully.
« Drop » is a very retained piece that is largely in one place and is almost completely focused on its two Lida. Such a film falls apart in heartbeat when these leading do not sell it. Fortunately, Landan and Casting nailed it there, With « white lotus » breakthrough Megan Fahi Getting the opportunity to do a great deal for yourself as a leading lady. This movie just rests on her shoulders, and she wears it conveniently.
Meanwhile, Brandon Caller, leaving last year’s hit « It ends with us », « Continues to do business as one of the following leading A-list in Hollywood. He is infinitely charming, never overdoing, offering this « IT » factor that is difficult to determine. Whatever it is, he has. Together, Fahi and Caller have excellent chemistry, which makes a smart scenario sing.
Ultimately, what has created a Landan is a movie time. This is not the season of awards, darling. This is not some hyperbolic movie « Change Your Life ». It’s just a damn good time.
/Rating of the movie: 8 out of 10
« Drop » gets to the theater on April 11, 2025.
