The disco fire in the north of Macedonia comes 59 dead, dozens more injured


The fire passed through a nightclub on Sunday in the city of Kocani, north of Kocani, killing 59 people and injured more than 100, after Sparks lit the roof on a live band.

Four people were issued in relation to the fire, said Interior Minister Panche Toshkovsky. The State News Agency MIA said police have detained the club owner for the incident.

A video of the event, verified by Reuters, showed a band that played on the stage flanked by two flares firing white sparks in the air, some of which put the roof.

The fire caused immediate panic, and friends and loved ones separated when people flee to the outputs.

« Everyone was trying to save, » he told the 22 -year -old survivor Marija Tasva on TV 5.

When he was trying to escape, Tasva fell to the ground and the people ran over, leaving it with an injury to the cheek. In the hurry, he lost contact with his sister, who is still missing.

« We can’t find it in a hospital, » he said.

Minors among the injured

The Minister of Health, Arben Taravari, said that 148 people were hospitalized in Skopje, Kocani and the surrounding cities. Eighteen people were critical injured, said Taravari.

MRT public broadcaster of North Macedonia reported that 27 people were hospitalized at Skopje City Hospital with severe burns, and 23 others were treated at a clinical center. There were minors among the injured, he said.

The fire, which began at around three in the morning, was caused by « pyrotechnic devices » whose sparks triggered the combustion, Toshkovsky said.

Ljupco Kocevski, a northern Macedonian public prosecutor, said that five prosecutors would investigate the incident.

« At the moment, orders have been issued to collect tests, » and some people were interviewed, said Kocevski, without elaboration.

Firefighters shot carbon entrance and smoke at the Pulse nightclub, while ambulances rushed from the scene, showing the television images of a local station. Reuters’ images showed that the club’s wavy iron roof was burned and collapsed in places, its inner and blackened inner wooden beams.

The Prime Minister, Hristijan Mickoski, told Facebook: « This is a difficult and very sad day for Macedonia! The loss of so many young lives is irreparable, the pain of families, loved ones and friends is unmistakable. »

After visiting injuries at a Skopje hospital, North Macedonian President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, dressed in black and fighting tears, said that authorities were willing to do everything to help everyone.

« I just can’t understand this … what a disaster, what a tragedy. »
