A young woman who spent years in Ottawa is one of the victims of the recent collapse of the nightclub roof in the Dominican Republic.
The jet seven clubs in the capital of Santo Domingo It was packaged for a performance on April 8 when the roof came in.
The cause of the collapse is still in research, but the search for bodies has been completed and 221 people died.
One of those who died was Sheila Berroa, 24, a Dominican citizen who lived in Ottawa since 2018, when he moved to join the family.
He finally studied business in Algonquin College and recently managed a location of the planet’s fitness.
« She was very involved in her community in Ottawa, especially in her local church by volunteering with children and contributed a lot to her friends and family members, » said her brother Franclin Berroa in a message to CBC News.
She added that she was a loving aunt and that her loss is tragic.
« We are all very impacted (for) their loss, and these effects will be with all of us for the rest of our lives. He was lovely, friendly, a worker, each community and person with whom he became involved with loved Sheila. »

Berroa was trying to expand his work permit to stay in Ottawa, but was denied earlier this year and had to return to the Dominican Republic.
« (Was) a young woman who had a bright life ahead. She was basically forced to move to Canada literally a month before this tragedy, » her brother said.

The stress of having to leave led to the end of his four -year relationship with Saul Mendoza.
They had lost contact when moved to the Dominican Republic in March. The day after the collapse, he said he received the call from his brother who had died.
He was still in shock when he spoke to CBC on Thursday while on his way to attend his funeral in the Dominican.
« He had his entire life ahead; he had so many hopes and dreams he shared with me. He wanted his family, wanted to be a mother, wanted so many things for his life, and his life was reduced and it is difficult to accept -very difficult to accept, » said Mendoza.

He said he is grateful for the time he spent with Berroa and will remain in his travels and how he taught him to dance.
« She was magnetic, » said Mendoza
« I just fell in love with who he was, the way he loved other people, the way he worried and cared for others, in the way she, you know, focused on good values, from a good heart. »
The funeral service will be held on Saturday.
