The Israeli military on Tuesday launched one of the largest strike waves in Gaza for weeks, according to residents, and health officials issued a new warning that health care faced the total collapse of all Israeli supplies.
The Gaza Ministry of Health said that a United Nations Polioomyelitis vaccination campaign aimed at targeting more than 600,000 children had been suspended, putting the enclave at risk of resuscitation of a parallel disease that had been all less.
In diplomacy to end the conflict, it was expected that a Hamas delegation would come to Cairo for talks. Two sources familiar with the mediation effort said that the delegation would discuss a new offer, which would include a truce of five to seven years after the release of all hostages and the end of the fight.
The sources said that Israel, who rejected a recent Hamas offer to release all hostages to end the war, did not yet have to respond to a renewed long -term truce proposal. Israel demands that Hamas disarm, that the militants reject.
A source of Hamas later denied the knowledge of an imminent visit, telling Reuters that the group remained because of its requirement that any agreement has to end the war.
Gaza residents said that Israeli forces bombed various areas of the enclave from tanks, planes and ships. The attacks hit houses, tent camps and roads, they added.
9 children among the dead to the last Israeli strikes
An early Tuesday Aistrike Israeli destroyed a various house in the city of southern Khan Younis, killing nine people, including four women and four children, according to Nasser Hospital, who received the bodies. The deaths included a two -year -old girl and her parents.
« They were asleep, sleeping in the peace of God. They had nothing to do with anything, » said Awad Dahliz, the grandfather of the killed girl. « What is the fault of this innocent child? »
On Tuesday, a strike at the built Jabalia refugee camp killed three children and his parents, and a strike in Nueirat killed a man and two children, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health Emergency Service and the local hospitals.
The Israeli military had no immediate comments on strikes, but has accused Hamas of using civilian infrastructure for militant purposes, which Hamas denies.
Aerial attacks destroyed the excavators and vehicles used to raise rubble and help recover the bodies trapped under the ruins, said officials and residents.
Hamas said that destroyed vehicles included nine who had been received from Egypt, adding that the measure aimed to « deepen the suffering of our people in Gaza ».
The Israeli military said that they struck 40 « engineering vehicles » used for « terrorist actions », including the execution of the Hamas -led attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
The vehicles were « considered a key component in Hamas’ ability to carry out terrorist operations against the defense forces and the state of Israel, » the military said.
“Real catastrophe” if vaccines do not immediately arrive
Israel has imposed a total blockade on all supplies in Gaza since the beginning of March, and re -launched its military operations on March 18 after the collapse of a cessation of fire.
Since then, Israeli strikes have killed more than 1,600 Palestinians, according to Gaza’s health authorities, and hundreds of thousands have been forced from their houses, as Israel took what he calls a cushioning ground area that extends deep to Gaza.
Israel’s 18 -month bombing campaign has made almost all buildings in the Gaza Strip uninhabitable, and 2.3 million Gaza people live mainly in the weather under discomfort. Since the total blockade was imposed last month, the 25 non -supplied bakeries have been closed.
Israel says that enough supplies were sent to the enclave during the six -week truce to keep the Gazans alive for months. Help agencies say they fear that the population is in the precipice of hunger and massive disease.
If polio vaccines do not arrive immediately, « we provide a real catastrophe. Children and patients should not be used as political blackmail letters, » said Gaza’s Ministry of Health’s Ministry’s spokesman Khalil deqran.
He said 60,000 children showed symptoms of malnutrition.
Israel denies international law
Israel says that his blockade aims to pressure Hamas militants who run Gaza to release 59 remaining Israeli hostages captured in the October 2023 attack that precipitated the war. Hamas says he is willing to release them, but only as part of an agreement ending the war.
« Israel acts in accordance with international law, » wrote the Minister of Defense Israel Katz about X, in response to the North Senator -American Bernie Sanders, who called the Israeli blockade of Gaza since March.
« The humanitarian condition in Gaza is constantly controlled and large amounts of help were delivered. Whenever it is needed to allow additional help, it must be assured that it does not pass through Hamas, which exploits humanitarian aid to maintain control over the civilian population and to benefit from it, » wrote Katz.
Almost every night since the beginning of the war in Gaza, the Holy Family Church of the city of Gaza would get a call from Pope Francis, including two days before his death. Father Gabriel Romanelli tells Adrienne Arsenault of the National about the final telephone call and the impact of the extraordinary spread of the pontiff.
Philippe Lazzarini, the head of the United Nations Palestinian Relief Agency, described the blockade as a collective punishment of the people of Gaza.
« The siege must be lifted, the supplies must flow, the hostages must be released, the cessation of the fire must resume, » said Lazzzarini on Tuesday in a publication in the X.
The 2023 attack by Hamas in southern Israel caused 1,200 deaths and 251 hostages brought to Gaza, according to Israeli records.
Since then, local health authorities have reported that more than 51,000 Palestinians have been killed in the Israeli offensive.
