A North -American influencer left Australia on Friday after the government announced that he was reviewing his visa on a video he published from his snatching a wombat of his mother.
Sam Jones, describing herself as an « enthusiastic and outdoor hunter », made her Instagram account private on Thursday after she was widely convicted of the video.
« There has never been a better day to be a baby in Australia, » said Internal Affairs Minister Tony Burke in a statement after a government official confirmed that Jones had voluntarily flown the country.
In the video, Jones, based on Montana, raises the Wombat Joey on the front legs in the dark from the road, and then moves away from his mother.
« I took a baby, » he said as a man who filmed his laughter. Return the Wombat to the road after several seconds.
Burke said that the conditions of his visa were reviewed on Friday to determine if the immigration law has been violated. « I can’t wait for Australia to see the back of this individual, I don’t expect it to return, » he said in a statement received by The Associated Press.
Prime Minister Anthony Albananese added his voice to criticism.
« Taking a mother’s wombat baby and clearly causing her mother’s anxiety is just an outrage, » she said.
« I suggest this so -called influencer, maybe some other Australian animals could try. Take a crocodile from their mother and see how you go. Take another animal that can fight instead of stealing a wombat on his mother. »
U.S. influence on social media, Samantha Jones, created a bewilderment in Australia after publishing a video now that he was eliminated on his Instagram account on his taking a Wild Baby Wombat from his mother. Wombat is a protected species of marsupial in Australia. Prime Minister Anthony Albananese denounced the act, saying that Jones should « try other Australian animals, » like a crocodile.
Jones, who also uses the name of Samantha Strable, closed his social media channels in the messages and could not comment on Friday.
Wombat seems to be a common Wombat, also known as a nose nose. It is a protected marsupial only in Australia.
Yolandi Vermaak, founder of the charity of animal charity Wombat Rescue, said that the separation of her mother’s young Wombat created a risk that her mother would reject her offspring.
« My greater concern is that we actually do not see that the mother and baby would meet. When she put her, she seemed to be disoriented. She was away from where her mother was last seen. So we don’t know if the mother and baby really found themselves again, » Vermaak said.
Vermaak also asked Jones to tell where the Wombat was after the video showed that Joey had a skin disease. « The baby has a command and it is a matter of time before he dies of his sleeve, so it is important for us to find where this happened and to get this baby and mother to deal as soon as possible, » said Vermaak.
