The four -day visit from Netanyahu to Budapest is a sign of his close relationship with the Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and the growing hostility of the latter towards international institutions, such as the International Criminal Court, of which his country is a member.

« Orbán’s invitation to Netanyahu is a clash to victims of serious crime, » said Liz Evenson, Director of International Justice of Human Rights Watch, in a statement. « Hungary should fulfill his legal obligations as part of the CPI and arrest Netanyahu if he puts his foot in the country. »
The ICCThe only permanent overall court in the world for war and genocide crimes, issued the arrest warrant in November for Netanyahu, as well as for his former Minister of Defense and Hamas’ military chief, accusing them of crimes against humanity in relation to the war in Gaza.

The CPI has criticized Hungary’s decision to challenge his term for Netanyahu. The spokesman for the court, Fadi the Abdallah, said that the parties in the ICC « unilaterally determine the solidity of the court’s legal decisions ».
The participating states have an obligation to enforce the court’s decisions, the EBDALLAH said to The Associated Press in an email and can consult with the court if they do not agree with their judgments.
« Any dispute over the court’s court functions will be resolved by the court’s decision, » said Abdallah.
“Contempt for international law”
The two leaders also relate to the President of the United States, Donald Trump, who signed an executive order in February by imposing sanctions on the ICC on his research on Israel.
