Protesters flooded several blocks on Saturday in the center of Mont -Real, singing « Shame on you » at the door of the United States Consulate.
It was one of the more than a dozen demonstrations held in all Quebec to mark International Women’s Day and denounce the attacks of the North -American Government against the rights of women and the sovereignty of Canada.
In Mont -Real, many wore red, symbolic of both blood and love. Some donated signs showing the Canadian maple sheet.
A few carried tunics reminiscent of Handmaid’s Tale, a dystopian novel in which women are subject to the governing regime.
Others brought signs by comparing the administration of United States President Donald Trump with that of Nazi Germany.
The protesters closed their arms when they were observed eight minutes of silence.
In a message to Trump, Vice President JD Vance and Trump’s ally Elon Musk, protest organizer Anaïs Barbeau-Lavalette denounced the United States administration.
“You are not kings. We are not maids, « he said.
