An Israeli air attack on the southern Khan Younis in South Gaza killed Hamas’s political leader on Sunday, Salah al-Bardaweel, said Hamas officials, as residents reported a climb to the Israeli military campaign that began on Tuesday.
Pro-Hamas Media said the air attack killed Bardaweel, who is a member of the group’s political office, as well as his wife. Israeli officials had no immediate comment.
Taher al-Nono, a Hamas leadership media consultant, cried the death of Bardaweel in a post on his Facebook page.
After two months of relative calm, the Gazans escaped again after Israel effectively abandoned a cessation of fire, launching an aerial and terrestrial campaign against the dominant Palestinian militant group in Gaza, Hamas on Tuesday.
The explosions echoed throughout the north, central and southern Gaza in the early hours of Sunday, as Israeli planes achieved several goals in what the witnesses said that was a climb of the attack that began on Tuesday.
In a statement, Hamas accused Israel of assassinating Bardaweel, whom he said he prayed along with his wife when an Israeli missile struck his refuge in Khan Younis.
« His blood, his wife and martyrs, will remain nourishing the battle of liberation and independence. The criminal enemy will not break our determination and will, » the group said.
Israel has launched new aerial attacks on objectives in Gaza, while its ground forces begin a renewed land operation. Hamas responded by firing rockets on Tel Aviv.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly said that the main objective of the war is to destroy Hamas as a military and governing entity. He said that the goal of the new campaign is to force the group to give up the remaining hostages.
Hamas de facto government chief, Essam Addalees, and his internal security chief Mahmoud Abu Watfa, were found among several officials killed by Israeli strikes on Tuesday.
Palestinian health officials said that at least 400 people, more than half of women and children, died on Tuesday.
Palestinian doctors said that an Israeli plane bombed a house in the city of Rafah in the southern strip of Gaza, injuring several people.
Hamas has accused Israel of breaking the terms of the cessation agreement of the January fire by denying negotiations for a final end of the war and a withdrawal of his Gaza troops.
But Hamas said he is still ready to negotiate and study the « Bridging » proposals provided by Steve Witkoff, sent from the media to United States President Donald Trump.

Thousands are still feared still buried and non -accounting under the rubble, and the attacks have devastated much of the coastal enclave, leaving hundreds of thousands of improvised stores and shelters.
