Catherine O’Hara « Last character 2 season 2 » has a connection with games

Time to return to the world of infectedAs « the last of us » returned with the second season, which may be more intense and traumatic than its predecessor. The last season adapts « the last of us, part II », which can only be described as a tough, uncompromising and separate experience of video games, where history develops violent rage to the fore. This does not mean that « part II » is not convincing and not effective: it is an unforgettable fairy tale about the cause and consequences where each action is the ones that are performed in self-defense or justified furiously, the way to chase the heroes living in this world. Five years is a long and long time, it means that Joel (Pedro Pascal), and Eli (Bella Ramsey) have fundamentally changed as people, or at least not the version of the heroes they started. Talking to Dina (Isabella Merced) shows that Joel sees a local therapist Gayla (Catherine O’Har), and he repeats what he has taken away in these sessions. Later, when Joel visits Gayle, we find out that he killed her husband Eugene back, though we are not provided with details about the incident. Players « Part II » recognizes Eugene as a character who refers to the game, so let’s study this connection with greater depth.

« The last of us, part II » often calls for players to collect their knowledge through study and pay attention to the details, but its link Eugene Linden is quite difficult to miss. Eli and Dina directly mention him during one of his patrols, noting that he died of natural causes (stroke) at the age of 73. Eugene’s stability as a former Jackson patrol and survivors feel the desire for Dina and Eli, because they want to remain as living and sharp as Eugene in ancient times. Moreover, in the hostile and unpredictable world of the game, even staying alive until 73, making Eugene a somewhat heroic figure who left behind a lot of nostalgic technologies and equipment for people. We see the aspect of this when Dina and Eli rested on the abandoned library during the blizzards, where they also find the Cup of Eugene.

Now we know that Eugene will appear in the show to a certain quality as Jo Handolian was confirmed that plays a role in 2 season. By applying the immediate connection between Joel and Eugene, « the last of us » presents another tragic layer in history, because Gayle was understood as offended by Joel because he killed her husband by some, which remains in the review. We will probably get a retrospective showing that Joel may have been forced to kill Eugene after the latter became infected, but the details and nuances in this case are much important. Moreover, this is not the first time Craig Mazin and Neil Print changed things out of games for greater impact because they have already done it With Bill and Frank’s characters in 1 season (up to moving, amazing effect).

While Eugene’s story in the game is simply intended to add to its intricate world construction, the series took the opportunity to solve the character in different ways. Printman spoke Variety O Changing Eugene’s story to increase rates and reveal new facets about primary characters:

Although Eugene’s retrospective has not yet taken place in the series, the consequences of his connection with Joel are already terrible. Gale’s resentment to Joel has not been established straight, as the scene begins with how he visits her for another session of therapy. This is the first birthday of Gayla without a husband for 41 years, and she mourn, drinking his memory, doing his best to go on such a difficult day. Joel continues to talk about Eli: how are they practically unfamiliar people when Eli leaves his way to avoid him and just nods at him. Gayle, already on the border, immediately closes Joel. She states that she has done it long enough to find out when someone leaves something and urges Joel to come in purity about the situation with Eli.

If he does not, Gayle states that he hates and resent Joel for firing and murdering her husband Eugene. « I knew you had no choice and I have to forgive you, but I can’t, » Gayle complains, deciding to be forward about his feelings, not extinguish in his offense. Joel does not respond because he really has no words that can make gail better. Although it is clear that Eugene’s death may be inevitable, she still does not change what he left and that Gayle should live with it every day. Gayle continues to admit that everything she said cannot be returned back, but Joel pushes her example and say that he is most afraid to speak out loud.

When Gayle offers Joel further and asks if he harms Eli, he breaks off, saying he saved her. Although it is technically true, it’s not all true as Joel’s parental instinct to save Eli came with a line of moral elections that cannot be unusable. The fact that Joel killed indiscriminately at this hospital will return to pursue him in the present, taking him unexpectedly before he had the opportunity to process her.

Like Eugene and the people who have died over the years (for any reason), these murders complicate Joel’s moral as a person, drawing him as a tragic figure that caused a lot of pain to those around him. Whether Joel will endure the guilt related to Eugene – and others will become more understandable, because this season, the « last of us » goes to his hard end.
