At least 37 people have been killed and dozens more injured in an accident involving two buses in the Western Potosi region of Bolivia, according to police and local authorities.

« As a result of this fatal accident, we have 39 people injured in four hospitals in the city of Uyuni, and 37 people have lost their lives, » a spokesman for the Potosi Departmental Police Command told journalists.
Police staff work to identify people who died and those who were injured and hospitalized, added the spokesman.
One of the buses went to Oruro, where one of the most important carnival celebrations in Latin America is currently taking place.
Police officers removed the survivors of the steel wreck, according to images shot by Radio Uyuni, who showed several bodies covered with blankets plastered in the Andean Highlands.
A police spokesman said that one of the two drivers, who both survived the fall, was located by passengers who consumed alcohol.
