At least 27 deaths, 160 injured after the collapse of the Dominican Republic disco


At least 27 people have died and more than 160 are injured after a roof collapsed to nightclub at her Dominican Republic Early on Tuesday, the authorities said.

Juan Manuel Méndez, director of the Emergency Operations Center, said that the crews sought the ruins in the JET with Santo Domingo for potential survivors.

« Suppose many of them are still alive, which is why authorities will not give up here until there is one person under these rubble, » he said.

According to the country’s National Police Service, the roof entered midnight on Tuesday.

From 5 a.m., 46 people had been rescued, the police said.

According to officials, Merengue singer Rubby Pérez, who was acting when the roof collapsed, is among the injured.

Pérez’s manager, Enrique Paulino, whose shirt was spoiled, told journalists that the concert began shortly before midnight, with the roof collapsed almost an hour later, killing the group’s saxophonist.

« It happened so quickly. I managed to throw -to a corner, » he said, adding that he initially thought he was an earthquake.

President Luis Abinder wrote to X that rescue crews were « working tirelessly » to help victims.

« We deeply regret the tragedy that took place at the Jet Set nightclub. We have been following the incident minute by minute since it took place, » he said.

According to Associated Press, an official was out of a hospital where the victims were treated, shouting the names of survivors to a crowd looking for his loved ones.

The cause of the roof collapse is in investigation.
