A tourist submarine carrying dozens of people, mainly Russians, to see that coral reefs of the Red Sea sank Egyptian The city of Hurghada, which left six dead and other injuries, stated on Thursday two municipal officials.

The Russian Tass News Agency said that five Russians were confirmed dead, including two children. The two Egyptian municipal officials said that the total toll was six, but the nationality of the sixth was not immediately known. Officials spoke to the anonymity of Associated Press because they were not authorized to inform the media.
The Russian Consulate in Hurghada said in a statement that 45 Russians were on board the submarine, « Sindbad », which operated from a hotel with the same name. It was not immediately learned how many crew or other tourists were on board, but the submarine has a capacity of 50 people.
Hurghada is an important destination for divers, snorkeling and other tourists drawn by the extensive red sea coral reefs. Several outlets offer submarine visits with large windows at the bottom to allow groups to see reefs and marine life, usually crossing about 20 meters deep.
In November, a tourist yacht sank into the Red Sea after rough waters’ warnings, Egyptian officials said. At least four people drowned while 33 were rescued.
Tourism is an important sector of the economy of Egypt, but many tourism companies have stopped or limited to traveling to the Red Sea due to the dangers of conflicts in the region.
